Gr8 thanks for the site but i dunno what anything does lo! i should pay more attention in science lol So what would i need to create something that explodes when its rubbed with another chemical do you know if theres a site that could help me find out what the chemicals added to other things thatd help v much:)

Ok well you need to very carfull if you dont know anything about what your mixing/reacting together! The best place to get started is to use good old GOOGLE! find out about variouse different experiments and find out how difficult, dangurouse and obtainable they are. Also find out about the properties and other reactions the chemicals can be used in. when you feel you know what your doing, you can attempt small/easy experiments, i particually like the wikipedia website as it gives you all the info needed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExplosiveThe main consituents of an explosive are an oxidiser, stabiliser, fuel, binder. One of the most common explosives is black powder. This is relitivly easy to produce: potassium nitrate (75%), charcoal (15%) and sulfur (10%). The pecentages can be modified to get different burning performances. As for a compound that explodes when rubbed with an other chemical (eg matches), can be spontaniously dangurouse. I have not produced such pyrotechnic compounds, but im sure there are loads of different methods arround. A contact explosive which is quite easy to produce is: Nitrogen triiodide. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrogen_triiodideI hope this helps a bit, i strongly recomend you build up a good background knowlage of the subject before undertaking any experiments!! People DO die from inexperiance with pyrotechnic compounds!

OK! ill start by making some smoke bombs! I found the mixture on www.unitednuclear.com/smoke its says 60% Potasium nitrate and 40% sugar. i found the fuse on www.ukvisco.com and was just wondering whether this 60/40 mixture is any good. It tells you to melt them together by slowly cooking them until they look like peanut butter... have you got another way where i dont wreck my mums saucepans:)

Hi, ive recently been making these smoke bombs, and i also used the method given on www.unitednuclear.com/smoke. Im currently writing up this project for my website. I used a pyrex beacker, a gauze, and a metal spatula to melt the chemicals together. I used a gas cooker with the gauze over the flame. the mixture is impressive, but you dont want it to over heat and ignite when making. The hardest bit is casting the actual bomb, i just pour it onto cling film on a plate. I found adding a few drops of water to the mix before heating allowed conduction of the heat to heat all the mixture more effectivly. keep me posted on how your doing...

Well i'll be making the bombs as soon as i can get my hands on the pottasium nitrate from school or a garden centre. I cant get anny visco fuse cause i dont have access to a credit card so ive been experimenting with string and every day items. After a whole day of lighting fuses with WD40, Cellulose thinners, Random cleaning product (the label had come off) and Deoderant i found that string dipped in Cellulose thinners was the best fuse. You have to light it when its wet which is not always ideal as you have to make it about a minute before you want to use it. I found that if you light it once and blow it out when its all burning (before the string goes black) and then you light it again it will go a lot faster the second time, from a 30 second fuse it will go down to a 1 second fuse. You can find cellulose thinners in model shops or art shops as they are used to get the paint of you paint brush. If your going to do this have a practise befor so you can get to know the fuse.

If you get the KNO3 from a garden centre make sure it is 99% pure (it usually isnt!). Buy it from: www.thegreenman.me.uk/The best fuse is black match, which is just black powder dried on string. You can get charcoal/carbon and sulfur from here as well.
